Catherine’s story

I was blown away when they said they could pay for my travel card. I enrolled on my course straight away!

Living at home in Walton with her mum and brother, Catherine was caring for her mum after she received a kidney transplant. She had always been good with numbers and hoped to one day qualify as an accountant. Having found the perfect course in London she started working out the costs. She soon realised the transport costs on top of the fees were more than she could afford.

“Mum scraped together enough money to cover my course fees by using her credit card and I helped by working part time in a local garage, but I just didn't have enough money to cover my travel.”

A friend told Catherine about Walton Charity’s grant scheme, so she quickly got in touch. Through our Direct Grants programme we were able to cover the cost of Catherine’s travel expenses, ensuring she could afford to complete her accountancy training.

“I was blown away when they said they could pay for my travel card. I enrolled on my course straight away! “

Since completing the course, Catherine has realised her ambition and is now working full time in an accountancy in Walton.

“I couldn't have done it without Walton Charity.”
