Improving educational attainment

We know that education is one of the best routes out of poverty, but often children who grow up in low-income families face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school.

We fund learning programmes, IT equipment and mental health support in local schools, and provide grants to help with the cost of school uniforms, school trips and extra-curricular activities. We also fund learning and development costs for adults who want to get back into work.

In 2021/22

Over 3,000 pupils at schools across Elmbridge accessed online learning, art and drama sessions and IT equipment through our Community Grants programme.

11 local schools received Opportunities Funds totalling more than £43,000 to support low income families with school uniforms, equipment and other school-related costs.

We gave out more than £20,000 in grants to help local families with the cost of school uniforms and shoes.

Although we get Pupil Premium funding from the Government to support the most vulnerable children at our school, there is a whole band of children who don’t quite meet the criteria but need support. Funding from Walton Charity helps to plug this gap and make sure no one is left behind.
