Annabel’s story
Annabel found herself in a dark place, in desperate need of help. A referral to The Bridge transformed her life. Annabel wrote this short story to describe her experiences:
It took three words. Two days.
And I was welcomed: A deer in headlights, standing in The Bridge in Walton-on-Thames.
“I need help”, a vulnerable, desperate me at rock-bottom. Three words.
A referral that day - an appointment to attend The Bridge the 2nd day…I’d never heard of them before, or knew where it was.
A bridging gap. And that it has been, indeed.
BUT so much more than that; it took a short time to realise I had gained my independence back.
“An emotional rollercoaster in life has lead me to this fantastic place of calm”.
Welcomed with an offer of a drink, space to ponder the till-less shop, with discretion. A place where I can breathe.
I’ve taken advice: money management (CAP course), Citizen’s Advice, Domestic Abuse and Financial Abuse services to name a few. I have partaken in yoga with Hanna - techniques, movements, and feelings which I adopt in my weekly life now.
“The Bridge and all the wonderful volunteers have given me the kind of life back I deserve”.
I’m grateful beyond words. Thank you Walton Charity for supporting me through some of the most challenging hours, days, weeks, and months of my life.
The Bridge = a feeling of acceptance, freedom, independence.
Thank you so much.
