Karen’s Story

Karen asked St. Peter’s Church for help during the COVID-19 crisis.  They were able to help as they have a Walton Charity Delegated Fund which enables them to quickly, flexibly and discreetly allocate emergency grants.

Karen said, "During Covid-19 I was made redundant and was faced with nearly becoming homeless as my boyfriend asked me to leave his home. Money was tight and I had no savings.

I'm the kind of person that thinks I can do everything myself and have trouble asking for help because I feel if I do, I’m not as independent as I think I am.  I suffer with anxiety and this situation made my anxiety worse and left me feeling helpless. I didn't know what options I had or if I could get any help.

I’m so thankful I dropped my ego and asked for help because I wouldn't be where I am now.  I turned to St. Peter’s Church, who amazingly found me a place to live.  I couldn't afford to pay for the upfront deposit, rent and my living costs.   If it wasn’t for Walton Charity, I wouldn’t have a place to live. They provided the money I needed to have a place to stay, which helped my anxiety and made me realise asking for help once in a while is nothing to be ashamed of.  We all need an extra hand. Having charities like Walton Charity is a blessing.”

Karen managed to gather together the funds to pay the deposit and rent for the temporary accommodation and St Peter’s Church used their Walton Charity Delegated Fund to enable Karen to buy food and other essentials.

Karen was able to get a job in Homebase, Walton as soon as she was housed.  Since the store closed, she now has a full-time job in a care home.
