Improving educational attainment

We know that education is one of the best routes out of poverty, but often children who grow up in low-income families face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school.

We fund learning programmes, IT equipment and mental health support in local schools, and provide grants to help with the cost of school uniforms, school trips and extra-curricular activities. We also fund learning and development costs for adults who want to get back into work.

In 2020/21

11 local schools received Opportunities Funds to support low income families with school-related costs

9 direct grants helped pay for school uniforms and equipment.

11 community grants funded catch-up programmes, online learning and extra computers at schools across Elmbridge.

57 laptops funded through our Computers for Kids Appeal helped local children to access home learning during lockdown.

It was very stressful trying to home school three children without a computer. Receiving a new Chromebook saved my life!
